A comfort to those who are suffering (Hebrews 11:35-40)Mike Bucher, 02/17/2019
In this study, we finish Hebrews chapter 11. This will comfort those who are suffering.
It is the chapter of faith. It tells us how important faith in God is. It also tells us exactly what it is. This chapter is called the Hall of Fame of Faith and provides amazing stories of victory through that faith. A wonderful testimony to the supernatural power of God through his servants. These stories get all the attention even now.
This chapter also include those who did not see God step in. They did not see God deliver them. They did not have their prayers answered. Yet they remained faithful to the Lord. They did not compromise. They died, suffered, were in hunger, had loved ones die. While this chapter lists the victories it also mentions those who suffered by saying "and others". They are not named. The crazy thing is the fact that these actually show greater faith than those in victory.
It is easier to praise God in victory than in suffering. These were not named. Jesus made it clear that the last shall be first. The ones who suffer alone and stay faithful to God will be honored by Him in eternity. The key is to realize that God loves us, He is good and He is in control - even when hard things happen to us.
God is looking at something far more important than our ease and comfort. He wants to make us like Jesus. Jesus learned obedience through the things that He suffered. Why does God allows his people to suffer? There will be many good lessons that will give hope, encouragement and comfort to many.
Trials and suffering will make us bitter or better. God will use them to make us better if we choose to trust Him and His word no matter what.

35Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: 36And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: 37They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; 38(Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. 39And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: 40God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
